KIDS IN BIKINIS: The Elizabeth Hurley Controversy

rexfeatures_957302a

Elizabeth Hurley is again entangled in controversy over her children’s bikinis line and critics from mother’s coalitions to her own followers are calling the line “disturbing” and are banishing the new leopard print designs as unsuitable for young girls. Naysayers say that Liz is sexualizing children and robbing them of their childhood. We wholeheartedly disagree with Liz’s critics and think they are absurd.

Elizabeth has great style and in her new swimwear collection for children she has tastefully and playfully designed a fun launch for this summer. We love the animal prints and think they look fun and not sexualized in anyway. The trim is pink or light blue on some of the bikinis and the fabric is generous and appropriate for a child. We think “safari,” the kids zoo” and “animal cookies” when we look at the adorable photos and wonder what’s all the fuss about it! Who goes there in their mind anyway!? Her collection embodies our philosophy at A Bikini A Day, “….freedom, travel, expressionism and relaxation.” Elizabeth has added the element of fun and we congratulate her.

My 5 yo neice has the Purple/leopard print bikini from her collection and it’s so stinkin cute. I was wearing bikinis at that age 23 years ago and i can’t remember It ever being controversial. I lived on an island and All the young girls had several. Maybe it’s the fact that now there’s the internet where people can voice their complaints to the world Instead of just their friends. Shame.

  2. THESE ARE SO CUTE. I WOULD BUY MY 3YR OLD ONE OF THESE NOW.

PUTTING A KID IN LEOPARD DOESN’T SEXUALIZE THEM… OTHERWISE WE’D HAVE AN UPROAR OVER THE OLD NAVY AND GAP LEGGINGS.

I specifically remember havIng a leopArd bikini as a kid. Has so much changed in the 20- something years since then!? I feel the same way when you say “who would even go there in their minds”. Its upsetting how sensitive everyday things have become.
