Sometimes we do not have the time to go to the professionals, although we appreciate their expertise very much and definitely opt for their treatment of unwanted hair any day. However, at times we find that we have but a few hours to get ready for an event, our wardrobe includes wearing a dress, and to our dismay suddenly we notice our hairy legs, possibly toes as well. For this reason it’s always a good idea to keep a few products at home; for others it may be a matter of preference to wax alone rather than have someone else do it for them.
The first thing to note is that waxing yourself does not necessarily have to end up in a big sticky mess. We recommend purchasing wax that is water soluble, if you have coarse hair then you will need regular wax.
The jar of wax will come with paper strips for waxing, a wooden stick for stirring and a special oil to help remove the extra wax and sooth your skin after-the-fact.
Once you have removed the cap and seal from the wax jar, make sure that the wax may be heated in the microwave. Usually 15 seconds is enough for water soluble wax, and at least 20 seconds for regular wax, but since microwaves tend to differ from one another, you may need to play around with heating times. But, you will know that it’s ready if the wooden stick easily stirs the wax, but if it’s too watery be careful, you may burn yourself. It’s a matter of common sense.
Make sure that your skin is without cream or oil, then with the wooden stick apply a thin layer of the wax onto the area you’d like to wax in the direction of the hair growth. Then, immediately place a strip on top of the wax, rubbing it up and down with your hand. The next step is important, grab the strip by the end piece and pull it in the opposite direction of the hair growth in a very quick manner and as close to the skin as possible, meaning not pulling on your skin but rather brushing across it very quickly.
If you follow these exact instructions there should not be much discomfort whatsoever and you will be left with absolutely no hair in that specific area.
It’s important to remember that the wax must always be kept at the same temperature otherwise it hardens. For this reason try to be quick, but if you’re taking your time then just pop it back in the microwave and reheat it and repeat the steps. Another option is to already have a pot of boiling water prepared ahead of time and once the wax is heated in the microwave just place it in the pot that will keep it warm for a bit longer. Be careful not to get any of the water inside your jar of wax.
Always rinse the waxed area with cold water and never with warm or hot water, then dry and apply a good moisturizer.
