BEACHY CHIC INTERIORS – HOW TO GET THE LOOK
We love the beach and naturally we love elements of it in our home. We hang out in our bikinis at home and the beach life is always with us, even if we can’t make it down to the sand.
The key to a beachy feel at home begins with layers of colors found at the shore. Whites, grays, sandy hues, blues and sea foam green in soft toned down shades layered throughout each room in paint colors, fabrics and accessories is our background pallet. We add vases of fresh white flowers to every room each week.
When we walk in our front door, we feel relaxed and at ease as the scent of Fleur del Sel candles wafts through our living room (or lounge room as Aussies call it) and beach flip flops from Vix sit waiting for us by the front door. Our living/lounge room French doors are adorned with Pottery Barn’s linen/cotton Payton drapery and they puddle on the floor to give a casual but elegant feel. The drapery is all white offering a sail boat feeling.
We are not shy to admit it; we love Shabby Chic and this style compliments beach chic with its romantic antique feminine feel. We have found furniture and accessories at Rachael Ashwell’s Shabby Chic Couture store in Santa Monica and also at Target where Shabby Chic products are sold. Our kitchen window box is beachy chic with glass vases, a carved wooden whale, sea foam green votives and potted orchids.
Our bedrooms are layered in tones of white, off white, oatmeal and grey. Paintings of the ocean and underwater photography set a calm mood and of course there are more white candles on bedside tables. Our bathroom exudes beach lux with oversized Turkish cotton towels from Bed Bath and Beyond in white and light blue. Lavender scented sea salts await a deep hot soak in the tub.
Our outdoor balcony is decorated with white washed wood and iron furniture. Bold navy blue and white striped seat cushions on our patio chairs and white sheer outdoor drapes give us the feeling that we are inside an island cabana. Hanging candle lanterns and glass accessories offer a clean fresh feel and a beach cruiser bicycle parked in the background beckons a ride down Montana Avenue to the Santa Monica Pier.
